This film festival is based upon a common thread found between a select few of Jarmush's films. After reading articles and books, and watching his films, I created its title and branding. From there stemmed photography, advertising, a dvd set and catalog book, business system, tickets, schedule, promo poster, film festival trailer, website, etc.
I chose to work with film and photograph my images without using the computer to retouch. Often traveling outside of San Francisco to achieve the quality of content I desired. One of my favorite quotes by Jarmusch says, “Nothing is original. Steal from anywhere that resonates with inspiration or fuels your imagination...Select only things to steal from that speak directly to your soul. If you do this, your work (and theft) will be authentic.” This project challenged me to do just that. Find inspiration in the ordinary and beauty in the mundane.
FAO: The Power of Play
FAO Schwarz was founded in 1862 as the "Toy Bazaar". Beyond offering unique, high-quality playthings, FAO Schwarz changed the way people shopped for and thought about toys. FAO Schwarz created a theatrical experience to showcase merchandise in a way that would bring it to life. I used this concept to build a new brand identity, giving FAO Schwarz the chance to connect with a new, yet familiar, audience and expand its capabilities beyond children's playthings.
The new brand, FAO, is grounded in the energy and spirit that is so ever present in youth. Nearly every one of us starts out playing naturally and needs little instruction, we find what we enjoy and do it. As we mature and strive to remain productive we find the moments of pure wonder and awe typically less frequent and far between. FAO IS HERE TO CHANGE THAT.
In all of human history, there have been only four epochs where the way information was available changed the very terms of human interaction, communication and learning so fundamentally, that there is no returning to the past. Having an accurate understanding of digital technology’s role in children’s lives is essential to those concerned about their development. Most importantly their parents, educators, health care professionals and the digital technology industry.
What are the effects intended or unintended, positive or negative, of the digital technology revolution on the developing mind's ability to learn, communicate, create and socially integrate?
This first graphic was part of the Murphy-Goode Facebook campaign, "A Few Goode Heroes," in which people nominated local heroes and winners had $1,000 donated to a charity of their choice. In addition, the winery donated an additional $1,000 to Operation Homefront. I was responsible for the design and worked with the brand team and communications to develop content.
Partake by K-J
Working with a great team of developers, photographers, and brand management, I was responsible for the coming soon web page, main website design, logo concept and creation, and exterior signage for Partake by K-J in Healdsburg, CA.
My involvement with the K-J app lead me to design for mobile, print, web and video. This includes the app icon, graphics for the app, user interface, posters, app cards, web banners, design of props for the launch video, as well as supporting the filmmaker and the talent.
If you want to learn patience and how to overcome failure, I highly recommend taking up a glass-centric discipline. It continues to be incredibly challenging and rewarding, allowing me to use my hands and break away from the computer.
