During my time at Team One, our team was responsible for the design of six double-decker trams and four tram shelters throughout Hong Kong — all promoting PIMCO’s Q4 2017 campaign blitz. The challenge — to visually alter a rectangular object, allowing it to mimic a fluid wave in motion. I really enjoyed this opportunity because the design was difficult, yet rewarding — similar to working on a 3D packaging project, but on a grander scale, under a tight turnaround deadline. Everything needed to be seamless and beautiful from each angle.

This was also my first chance to design with Chinese characters and there was a bit of a learning curve. One side of the tram features the headline in English “We didn’t invent fixed income, but we reinvent it every day.”, and the other side is the same in traditional Chinese. The shelters have Chinese headlines that translate to “Architects of opportunity.” “Architects of ideas.” and “Architects of fixed income.”

While designing there were areas that required a deeper attention, such as moving doors and windows or those spots that would not allow for printing (i.e. lights). We also took into account which direction the tram would be moving. In addition to the tram wrap and tram shelter advertising, there were newspaper spots, digital ads in multiple formats, etc.
